All Saints Parish, Brookline and the Henry Purcell Society of Boston Present Te Deum and Jubilate in D

On Sunday, November 23, at 3:00pm, the choirs of All Saints Parish, Brookline will join with the Henry Purcell Society of Boston and the Trebles of the Parish of All Saints, Ashmont’s Choir of Men and Boys to present a concert of music by Henry Purcell. Featuring the glorious Te Deum and Jubilate as well as selected works from the life and death of Queen Mary II, this concert will showcase some of Boston’s finest instrumentalists as well as acclaimed soloists Shannon Canavin (soprano), Jessica Cooper (soprano), Douglas Dodson (countertenor), Gerrod Pagenkopf (countertenor), Charles Blandy (tenor), Jacob Scharfman (baritone), and Robert Honeysucker (bass-baritone).

Henry Purcell (1659-1695) was one of the most well-regarded and influential composers of the English Baroque era. His compositions for the church, the court, the theater, and the concert hall served as an inspiration for subsequent composers such as G.F. Handel, Benjamin Britten, and even The Who’s Pete Townshend. The Henry Purcell Society of Boston was founded in 2013 by Jessica Cooper and William Chapman with the mission of presenting historically informed, extraordinary and vibrant performances of the works of Henry Purcell and his contemporaries. This marks the organization’s second production following a critically lauded debut in November 2013.

All Saints Parish, Brookline is known for its fine music program. At this concert, the parish’s Adult Choir (Suzanne McAllister, Interim Music Director) and Schola youth choir (Emily Howe, Schola Director) are thrilled to share the stage with the treble singers from the Parish of All Saints, Ashmont’s Choir of Men and Boys (Andrew Sheranian, Organist and Choirmaster). One of the few remaining American choir programs built in the model of the Anglican men and boys choir, the choir of the Parish of All Saints, Ashmont provides a rigorous choral training program for its young singers.

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear the spectacular music of Henry Purcell!
