Creation Care recognizes that God calls us to care for everything, with special attention needed for the environmental. In 2003, All Saints was the first congregation in New England to receive the EPA’s Energy Star Award. The award recognized major environmental improvements by the parish, including a change from steam to hydronic heating with high-efficiency generation and zones to match use patterns. As a result, environmental impact of the parish dropped by about 50%.
In 2011 light bulbs in the Sanctuary (over 400) and Music Room were changed to LED, with a drop in electricity use for the building of about 40%, and cost reduction of over $6,500. The installation of on-demand hot water generation in the kitchen dropped gas use for hot water by over 40%.
The benefits from these environmental actions can be multiplied where you live, work, learn and play – indeed everywhere. Each one of us is called to care for God’s creation via Everyday Environmental Stewardship You can find Everyday Environmental Stewardship Briefs for all kinds of actions at the Massachusetts Interfaith Power & Light website. Find out what you can do, act on it, then encourage others to join in Creation Care.
