CONFIRMATION, RECEPTION, REAFFIRMATION

Baptism initiates us into Christ’s One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. And those who have been baptized at an early age are expected, when they are ready and have been duly prepared, to make a mature public affirmation of their faith. This form of initiation into the Episcopal Church takes place through the rite of confirmation and reception. “Confirmation is the rite in which we express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and laying on of hands by a bishop. It is required of those to be confirmed that they have been baptized, are sufficiently instructed in the Christian Faith, are penitent for their sins, and are ready to affirm their confession of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.” (Book of Common Prayer, page 860). If you have been baptized and confirmed in another catholic communion, you may be received into the Episcopal Church in a ceremony presided over by the bishop. A period of preparation and study with the Rector, Family Minister, and/or other mature Christians is required. Confirmations are done throughout the year by deanery. We are part of the Charles River Deanery. For more information, contact the Rector.
