CHILDREN, YOUTH & FAMILY MINISTRIES
On Sunday we will have our first one-room Church School session of the year. The kids in Grades 2 to 12 will gather in the dining room to make 150 sandwiches for the members of Common Cathedral. Then a group of adults from our parish will deliver those sandwiches, and other food, downtown.
Common Cathedral is an outdoor church. Many of the people who attend the church live on or near Boston Common, where the congregation gathers for worship every Sunday. Before they worship, however, they have lunch together. Each week, a group of people provides that lunch. This Sunday our kids will be doing that.
It’s really important that our children realize that worshiping God and following Jesus’ way of living doesn’t just happen at All Saints Parish on Sundays. The tough work of discipleship happens the rest of the week, too, especially when we come face-to-face with human need and struggle. I hope our kids will get new insight into this on Sunday. Maybe they will appreciate how, through Christ, homeless people in Boston are their neighbors, and that making sandwiches for these neighbors is one way to show you care about them.
