The service of Choral Evensong celebrates the beauty of the Anglican choral tradition, offering the gathered community a calm and peaceful liturgical veil through which the divine may be experienced. Sung at the close of day in cathedrals and churches throughout the world, Evensong is derived from the ancient offices of Vespers and Compline. Consisting of hymns, choral music, and readings, it is an opportunity for rest and meditation before the start of a busy week.
The All Saints Choir will offer Choral Evensong on Sunday, October 21st at 5:00pm to commemorate the Feast of the Hugh Latimer and Nicholas Ridley, the Oxford Martyrs. The service will be drawn from the 1552 Book of Common Prayer, and will feature music of Tudor-era composers Tallis, Sheppard, and Gibbons, together with a homily by the Rector. There will be a pre-service recital beginning at 4:30pm, performed by Stephan Griffin.
